To maintain efficiency and progress, corruption and nepotism must be avoided at all costs.Hence this is where the policy Reward for Work ;Work for Reward came into play.
With Singapore being a multi-racial society.Meritocracy is an important key,as it ensures that the best and brightest, regardless of race, religion and socio-economic background, are encouraged to develop to their fullest potential.

With this,people will be able to individually support themselves,and not relying on the Government to take care of their wellfare.Though the government does provide subsidies in vital areas like housing, health and education,hence reducing the burden on the breadwinners of the family

Consequences:
If people are too idle;believing that the government will handle each and every single one of their welfare,chaos will ensue.A good example will be the National Health Service(NHS),the publicly-funded health care system in Great Britain.In the past,people refused to pay taxes and believing that health care is their rights and government ought to provide it for them.As a result,the NHS suffers from the lack of funding and nearly bankrupted

Also,racial issue will take place if Singaporeans are idle.For ,if they see that those of different races were receiving more benefits.The sense of envy will be developed and it will severely deter Singapore's progress.
