Some of us will do our jobs well and some will not, but we will be judged by only one thing-the result.
-Vince Lombardi
All societies seek to create a stake for their citizens but in Singapore's case, it is all the more important because of our origins as an immigrant society. Singapore can only survive if every Singaporean sees their future and that of their fellow countrymen as intertwined. Giving a stake to everyone, not just citizens but all who have a role to play in Singapore's future will help towards the end.As corresponding with the principle Reward for work, work for reward. This principle is based on the significant part meritocracy and racial harmony plays in Singapore.
In Singapore's education system.Students regardless of whichever level he/she belongs to are able to obtain accolades and government rewards. In secondary school for example.Students from the normal technical and normal academic stream has been given the opportunity to jump all the way to express stream. For the express, there are also after school programme such as the Sunshine Programme and Holiday remedial ;all in effort to assist students who are weak in certain subjects.Hence creating an equal playing field among the students.
A stake for everyone, opportunity for all is essential for the progress of the nation. As said by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew,"Singapore's only natural resources are its people and their strong work ethic.".Hence Singapore's progress depends on its people and in order to motivate and give them a purpose to excel, this particular principle is of absolute importance.Without its people working.Singapore will have no monetary resources and her people will live in poverty and ruins

Anticipating change,staying relevant
To act and act wisely when the time for action comes, to wait and wait patiently when it is time for repose, put man in accord with the rising and falling tides (of affairs), so that with nature and law at his back, and truth and beneficence as his beacon light, he may accomplish wonders. Ignorance of this law results in periods of unreasoning enthusiasm on the one hand, and depression on the other. Man thus becomes the victim of the tides when he should be their Master.
~ Helena Petrova Blavatsky ~
This principle encapsulates our basic approach to dealing with our dynamic external environment. While we cannot forecast change in an increasingly volatile environment, we can anticipate it by staying nimble and flexible, and at the same time, exploiting opportunities that come our way.In order to do so,these 3 priniciples are practised in order to uphold this particular principle:
Turn constraints into advantages: Singapore's constraints have compelled us to seek ingenious solutions to our problems. For example, we turned poor regional conditions into an advantage by offering First World conditions in a Third World region. We also turned our small size into an advantage, by better utilizing resources and minimizing wastage. Our effort to make ourselves self-sufficient in our water supplies is a case in point. And what we lacked in quantity, we made up in quality while ensuring we remained competitive. In this way, we were able to develop, for example, PSA and SIA into world class companies, which could take on the more established players.
Exploit opportunities even in adversity: Opportunities do not only present themselves when times are good. While we anticipate and plan for the worst-case scenario, we should also be continually on the lookout for opportunities in times of crisis and find ways to turn them to our advantage.
And lastly,be organized in term of preparation for any impending troubles ahead.A notable example on the importance of this principle is the ending of the two water agreement between Malaysia and Singapore which will respectively end in 2011 and 2061.The solution to this problem has been carried since the early 2000's and has resulted in the creation of Newater. Not only does this act as a solution. It also puts Singapore as a forefronter in the area of Biochemical Engineering
Consequences:Anticipating change has been an essential component in Singapore's Principle of Governance. Its plays a forefront role in Singapore's progress from a third world to a first world country.Without it,our people will only be reactive, instead of pro-active.This is certainly unwanted since everything planning everything at the last minute will not lead to a successful result

Reward for work ;Work for Reward
”In the arena of human life the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action.” --Aristotle
To maintain efficiency and progress, corruption and nepotism must be avoided at all costs.Hence this is where the policy Reward for Work ;Work for Reward came into play.
With Singapore being a multi-racial society.Meritocracy is an important key,as it ensures that the best and brightest, regardless of race, religion and socio-economic background, are encouraged to develop to their fullest potential.
With this, people will be able to individually support themselves, and not relying on the Government to take care of their wellfare.Though the government does provide subsidies in vital areas like housing, health and education, hence reducing the burden on the breadwinners of the family
Consequences:
If people are too idle;believing that the government will handle each and every single one of their welfare, chaos will ensue.A good example will be the National Health Service(NHS),the publicly-funded health care system in Great Britain. In the past, people refused to pay taxes and believing that health care is their rights and government ought to provide it for them.As a result, the NHS suffers from the lack of funding and nearly bankrupted
Also, racial issue will take place if Singaporeans are idle. For ,if they see that those of different races were receiving more benefits. The sense of envy will be developed and it will severely deter Singapore's progress.

Leadership is Key
Leadership: The art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.
-Dwight D. Eisenhower
Leadership is key
Being a leader is defined by his ability to enforce the right decision, despite it not being popular or liked by the people.A leader needs to prioritize his people above himself.
A good leader has to have a strong character and integrity to serve his people well. He has to be honest and incorruptible so as to win the trust and confidence of his people. In doing so, he can lead his people well and confidently. A leader has to listen to his people and to respect their opinion.

Example of good leaders:

The three men above are some of the most renowned leaders who had revolutionized their respective nations. They were regarded by many to be humble visionaries with witty and flexible thinking who exemplifies dignity and respect, which I believe are the two main aspects of leadership.
Consequences of having an unreliable leader:
As mentioned above, leaders are the source of guidance and direction for the people, without his/her presence, the organization will crumble. However, having a leader doesn't necessarily defined a good government.A corrupted leader will bring misery to his people. His mindset of prioritizing reputation above his nation will cause a jeopardy and instability in the lives of his people
Example of unreliable leaders:

Everything has a price. These men are some of those who has been synonymous with controversy to their name.It roots from deception to dictatorship. As mentioned above, leaders are men who cares for the welfare of his /her people. However these men has been reputed to only care about their personal success and image;which is something that youth of Singapore has to avoid

Social Studies: Principles of good Governance
A general is just as good or just as bad as the troops under his command make him.
-General Douglas MacArthur
Introduction
Leaders are people who set good examples for their people to follow and acting as their source of guidance and wisdom. A leader should be able to motivate their people and act as the facilitator.
In order to so,he/she must be able to create these atmospheres around his/her followers
1. Unique Nation
This relates to our physical constraints - our size, lack of natural resources, and a multi-racial society;
2. Unique Environment
This relates to fundamental forces in our external environment that influence our existence; and
3. Unique Government
This relates to the unique features of our political system, including the legacy of the PAP Government
In order to create these atmospheres,a leader should also follow these four essential principles in governance:
1. Leadership Is Key
2. Anticipate Change, Stay Relevant
3. Reward for Work; Work for Reward
4. A Stake For Everyone, Opportunities For All
